These fools just stuck me for 31% of my take home pay! Taxes have got to be one the most “Ain’t Right” things that I can think of. I need a damn dependent to claim.

I guess I would not feel so bad without corporations dictating where my tax dough goes through the puppet strings they have attached to the non-existent spine of our chimp/chump of a president. Or those 12 injustices of the Supreme Court.

And once again, acting in the best interests of corporate America, the government shut down gangs of copyright violators who distribute movies before they hit the theatres.

Online Pirates Nailed in Sting

Now we can all sleep peacefully knowing Osma is still at large, but the MPAA, RIAA, and BSA’s products are no longer pirated by these nefarious release groups.

Pretty good discussion over at Slashdot.

“Can you imagine what’s going to happen at Costco? Can you just imagine the lines?” Sturtz added.

Man what a nightmare.

Los Angeles Times: Buying Cold Pills? Fill Out This Form

Although the law is intended to circumvent the manufacturing of meth, it seems very likely that its just as easy for law enforcement to use the data that’s collected for something else. After all, terrorists get colds too.

“Most of my shareholder group did not think that giving away our product was the American way.”

Wired News: Credit Chief Slams Free Reports

Essentially the data broker companies are complaining about recent legislation that allows consumers free credit reports every 12 months instead of paying for these “products.” These companies really did it to themselves. If they hadn’t fucked up and gave their “products” away to nefarious users or put more effort into securing them, they probably wouldn’t have to give them away to consumers for free.

In defining what a significant breach might entail, he replied, “We’re looking at millions of files, three million files now in these so-called breaches (in the news)…. I don’t think you’ve seen our name in the news.”

Sounds like the difference between a significant and insignificant fuckup is whether or not its in news…

When pressed to say whether his company had notified consumers when it experienced insignificant breaches, he replied, “I’m not going to go there. I’m not going to answer that question. We have been notifying and engaging in communication with customers, consumers, for a long time. We’re known for that. We’re known for our stand on privacy.”

And therefore, they don’t communicate jack shit.

“One who distributes a device with the object of promoting its use to infringe copyright … is liable for the resulting acts of infringement by third parties using the device, regardless of the device’s lawful uses.”

Wired News: Grokster Loss Sucks for Tech

So now content owners like the RIAA and MPAA have a much tighter grip not only on the distribution of their content, but on the innovation of technology. This is really a dark day for tech.

It was unanimous too. Our government is made up entirely of n00bs that suck entertainment industry dick.

Amendments to the 18 U.S.C. 2257 federal law make it impossible for pr0n sites to keep records of their performers.

Wired News: Online Porn Dodges Major Bullet

In a post-wardrobe-malfunction world, religious fanatics are using the law to silence free speech. Whether or not you agree with pr0n, the eroding of civil liberties should disturb you more than the most deviant of pr0n.

The Pentagon’s statements added that anyone can “opt out” of the system by providing detailed personal information that will be kept in a separate “suppression file.” That file will be matched with the full database regularly to ensure that those who do not wish to be contacted are not, according to the Pentagon.

Shady big brother keeping watch over students even if they opt out. That ain’t right. Niether is trusting private data brokers to do the job for them:

Looks like the makings for rampant data theft.

So residents lose their homes, but the city gets tax revenues. That may or may not be right. The real issue is big brother using the law for a purpose that it may not have been originally intended for. Who’s to say that they won’t (they will) do it again?
