There’s a few things wrong with this whole situation:
Mom Fights Downloading Suit on Her Own - Yahoo! News
Santangelo said her biggest issue is with Kazaa for allowing children to download music without parental permission. “I should have gotten at least an e-mail or something notifying me,” she said.
Take at least SOME responsibility. It shouldn’t always be someone else’s fault that you don’t know what your kids are up to. There are plenty of kiddie-patrol tools and software to control this nefarious downloading behavior. This type of thinking is how civil rights are slowly eroded everyday. Knuckleheads like this calling for big brother or some private company to watch over their kids because they don’t want to learn.
…the record companies used an investigator to go online and search for copyrighted recordings being made available by individuals. The investigator allegedly found hundreds on her computer on April 11, 2004.
This information is misleading because it suggests that the investigator hacked into her system when he probably just searched some Napster-like P2P software and saw all the shit she was sharing. And if he did break into her system, wheres the law protecting her network? Oh thats right, the law only works for rich people with deep pockets.
“Our goal with all these anti-piracy efforts is to protect the ability of the recording industry to invest in new bands and new music and give legal online services a chance to flourish,” she said. “The illegal downloading of music is just as wrong as shoplifting from a local record store.”
BULLSHIT. Shoplifting involves the theft of a physical tangible product. Seems to me that the RIAA has done everything BUT let the legal online music services flourish.
