USATODAY.com - Researchers: Anti-virus software has flaw

Said it before, guess I’m saying it again. Anti-Virus software is a waste of time, system resources, and money. Quit downloading system compromising ‘cute’ desktop wallpaper, bonzai buddies, system registry monitors, local weather helpers, porn, etc. and you’ll be surprised how your computer problems seem to just go away.

And turn off automatic updates, Microsoft hardly knows what there doing.

In 2003 AT&T built “secret rooms” hidden deep in the bowels of its central offices in various cities, housing computer gear for a government spy operation which taps into the company’s popular WorldNet service and the entire internet. These installations enable the government to look at every individual message on the internet and analyze exactly what people are doing.

Wired News: Whistle-Blower’s Evidence, Uncut
Turns out the court forbid the EFF from releasing the evidence, but not anyone else.  So Wired News released a large portion of it on Monday.

This is the infrastructure for an Orwellian police state. It must be shut down!

This opinion piece makes some good points, especially:

When drugs are outlawed, only outlaws deal drugs. If it weren’t illegal, the sale of narcotics would be no more prone to violence and corruption than the sale of cola or cigarettes.

Its just as its always been. People just don’t fucking learn. They tried the ban on alcohol in the states and look how that turned out.

Pope condemns geneticists ‘who play at being God’ - World - Times Online

Guess the world is still flat.

Maybe the Pope should be condemning war for oil, environmental destruction, etc. Not to belittle the scientific baby steps of genetics but those are ‘un-godly’ acts with some serious consequences.
Typical.

So, for the last couple of days my computer has been slow, very frustrating. So first I assuming the usual culprits: Some stupid application running across the internet yapping to its mothership about my private use. Maybe some cheesy marketing virus malware that made it past the anti-virus software I vehemently oppose running on my machine. Well, while ripping a CD (purchased legally-RIAA swines), tab browsing about a dozen pages (firefox), and trying to get out an email things got unbearable, so I tried to turn up my PC’s CPU fan and thought man this thing is quite. To my surprise my CPU fan hasn’t been running and this has been going on for about two or three weeks! I guess last time I opened it up some wires got in the way and were blocking the fan blades. Yeah, running for weeks, I still have a CPU-no fire. So the moral of the story:

If I was some idiot trying to squeeze that extra 2MHz out of my CPU Im pretty sure it would’ve burnt up. So this bigger idiot broke out two cable ties and my computer is back to its normal speed.

All they need now is some baby ice and chrome spinners for power wheels.  This is pretty stupid.
